For those who love Tango music (and for those who just love Tango in general), there is a film/documentary showing on More4
tonight, Tuesday 8th July, called “
Café de los Maestros”.
It focuses more on the music and the musicians rather than the dance, although I’m sure there’ll be some dancing in it, but it will give a great insight to the history, origins and flavours of Tango in its home of Buenos Aires. It has been described as the “Buena Vista Social Club” for Tango. For those not familiar with the BVSC “project” it was a coming together of all the old musicians from the hey-day of Cuban music and spawned new album deals, performances and world tours for them.
“Café de los Maestros” is doing the same thing – re-uniting many of the (now aging) musicians and singers from the “golden days” of Tango in the 50’s, hearing their stories and experiences, and culminating in a performance in the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires.
Don’t miss it! Set your recorders. It is on More4 (available on your Freeview set-top box) this
Tuesday (8th) evening 10pm-12midnight (it is also repeated at 1am-3am early Wednesday morning).
Here is a link to More4’s review of it - there’s two pages, don’t miss the 2nd page:
