Hi All,

Well, this term has got off to a good start and our second pair of visiting teachers seem to be going down really well. Beatriz and Andrew are focusing on very useful details of the basic technique – and teaching them very well. See the “Non-BATS” section below for details of workshops they are running in Dublin, or if anyone wants private lessons with them, please contact Beatriz directly (but you will need to find your own venue as City Church cannot be used for this).

As Beatriz and Andrew pointed out in class – you really need to be practising what you learn in class and our monthly Milonga this Saturday is the ideal opportunity to do so. This month we’ll have a special attraction too (see below). We also hope to re-introduce the weekly practise session from next week. More details, along with everything else that’s happening in the Tango scene, follow below this email. In this edition of our email newsletter:

1. Weekly Monday classes continue with teachers Beatriz and Andrew.
2. BATS monthly Milonga is on Saturday 17th October – with a musical performance!
3. Weekly Practica re-starts Thursday 22nd Oct. – change of venue.
4. YouTube clip
5. Non-BATS events

Feel free to forward this on to anyone else who you think might be interested. In fact, it’s only by keeping the numbers up that we can afford to bring professional teachers to you, so please have a good hard think if there are any family, friends, or colleagues who you could persuade along. If you want removed from this circulation, just let me know.

Thanks,

Alan

1. Weekly Monday classes continue with teachers Beatriz and Andrew.
For the rest of the term we’ll have the pleasure of the services of another Argentine teacher – Beatriz Cisneros. Beatriz has danced, studied and taught all over Europe and the USA. More recently, she has been in Cork and other parts of Ireland, where she has been highly recommended. More information is on her website:
http://beatanguera.weebly.com/meet-the-artist.html

For October she will also be accompanied by the American Andrew David Burt. Andrew has danced tango for over 9 years and taught for 7, starting in Portland in the US and living the last 3 and a half years in Buenos Aires. In BsAs he performed in Club Villa Malcolm, Me Rio de la Plata and the inauguration of El Indio's new milonga “Tangolab”, and taught at La Catedral and Tango Brujo. His teaching is analytical and focused more on the why and how than on memorized rules. He’s currently on tour in Europe, having taught in Moscow, Amsterdam and Vienna before coming to Ireland to partner Beatriz. Here is a clip of him in action:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMR9jCjcGgc

The classes will be the usual format:

Beginners 7.00 – 8.30pm
Practice 8.30 – 8.45pm
Improvers 8.45 – 10.15pm
Practice 10.15– 10.30pm

Cost - £7 for one class, £10 for both (Student/Concession: £5/£8 – please show ID).

Usual venue details: the main upstairs hall of City Church, 12-24 University Avenue (on the left as you head down the Avenue away from Botanic - there's a large white church, then City Church is a red brick building a few doors further, opposite the Spar). The hall is above the “Common Grounds" café, but enter through the double doors round the corner – ring the bell if closed. Here's a link to a map:

2. BATS monthly Milonga is on Saturday 17th October – with a musical performance!
Our monthly Milongas are back to their regular schedule of the third Saturday of the month so the next one is this Saturday 17th October (then 21st Nov.). The venue will still be The Edge, same time 9pm-12+, same price £5. It’s your chance to dress up (or come casual, whatever) and enjoy a night of Tango. Even if you have only learnt how to walk and the basic eight, you can still have a go – and it’s only by having a go that you will become familiar with the technique and steps.

This month we will also have a special attraction in the form of a musical interlude from our very own Angel, who will be casting off her Tango shoes for short break around about 10.30 to join the other half (Davey, on guitar) of her duo “Zebra”. Angel will sing a couple of tracks for us – but don’t worry, it doesn’t mean you have to stop dancing as she is happy for people to dance to her songs – whether that’s Tango or some other genre, is up to you.

3. Weekly Practica re-starts next Thursday 22nd Oct. – new of venue
As The Edge has decided that it will no longer open on mid-week nights (we weren’t drinking enough!) we have had to find another venue. From next Thursday (not this Thursday), we will have the use of The West venue on the Falls Road. More details and directions in next week’s email newsletter.

4. YouTube clip
Here a clip of our last pair of teachers, Monina and Marcelo, doing a few performances at Monina’s 5th anniversary ball, in Dublin the other weekend:

5. Non-BATS events

A. Loli’s Milonga – for this week only, UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT!
As Loli is away dancing in the sun, tomorrow’s taster class and Milonga in The Lonely Poet will be under the management of Elly and Alan. Normal format: beginner/taster class 9.30pm, Milonga 10-12, price £5. Normal service will be resumed next week

Here’s a message from Loli:
The Wednesday classes in the Markets Community Centre are stopped for the time being. (There weren't enough people to keep going). But I would like to offer new classes for January if there is a group interested in attending. Anyone who would like to join a beginner’s class in January - please email me: cordobatango@terra.es.

I've had some requests for private lessons so if you'd like to continue learning tango with me at a time that suits you then please get in touch.

The Milonga at The Lonely Poet continues every Wednesday from 9.30pm.

Thanks you
LOLI

Wednesday Milonga.
From 9.30 pm until midnight there will be a Milonga Party at The Lonely Poet Bar & Bistro on the Kings Road. This is a great opportunity to hone your skills in a tango party atmosphere in a cool place. Don't be shy! I'll be doing basic tuition for anybody who wants to join in the party - even if they've never danced before. PRICE: Milonga: £5
