Hi all,
This is another "lite" newsletter, as we're still in relaxed summer mode. But things are still happening:
1. Practicas are still running every
Tuesday from 8-10pm, in The Edge (only £2). Don't lose what you learnt last term. This is an informal practice session for everyone.
2. BATS monthly Milonga this Saturday (15th) in The Edge from 9pm-12+ (cost £5). Everyone welcome, no matter what your experience. Note: our next one, in September, will not be on the normal 3rd Saturday, but the next Saturday, 26th September).
3. If anyone is interested in the
7th Tango Festival in Ireland on the 3rd and 6th of September, I have flyers and a couple of booking forms. More information is here:
http://www.tangofever.net/festival.html (This is another good example of how our Marion and Enrique weekend in June was brought to you at such good value - these workshops are 35Euro each, which is not unusual for this type of event).
4. A YouTube clip with a difference. Okay, I'm indulging a personal interest here, but there has to be some payback for me putting in this work for you all. I do a bit of windsurfing, so I was intrigued when I came across this clip combining windsurfing and tango! The tango clip, I think we've seen before, but someone has seen the parallels between the two activities and married it to one of the top windsurf freestylers practising his skills. The icing on the cake is that the windsurfing clip is from Bonaire - an island in the Dutch Antilles, which like Buenos Aires, sounds like it also means "good air", although that isn't clear. For anybody who has tried wobbling about on a windsurf board, you should be able to appreciate the guy's skills. I've always thought there was a lot of cross over between my tango and windsurfing, in terms of foot placement, timing, balance, etc. - even some of the manouevres are similar. For those of you who have never been near a windsurf board - he makes the sail "dance" by throwing it into the wind, that catches it and brings it back to him - not easy! What relevance does this have to our tango? Nothing really, except I'd suggest that neither the dancers or the windsurfer got this good without a lot of practice - so come to our practicas and Milongas! If nothing else, the clip is a chance for you ladies to oogle at a fit, muscular, tanned surfer's body (much like mine …… well, maybe not). Finally, if you think the closing move by the windsurfer is a camera trick, it's not - I found other clips showing previous attempts that didn't quite work. Enjoy.
